NYLA Dewey Fellowship 2006 Recepient: Thomas Cohn

The Board is pleased to announce the recepient of this year’s NYLA Dewey Fellowship in Thomas Cohn of the Huntington Public Library.

Tom Got his Masters in Library Science (MLS) in 2002 from the Palmer School of Library & Information Science. He Started working at Touro College Libraries while simultaneously working weekends at the Huntington Public Library (Huntington, NY). In 2003, he went full time at Huntington in the tech service department. He is a cataloger, but also serves as assistant site coordinator for the Partnership of Automated Libraries in Suffolk (PALS).

He has been active in the Computer and Technical Services Division of the Suffolk County Library Association. He edits their newsletter. He started an AACR2 Study Group which was recently renamed the Cataloging Roundtable – a thrice yearly forum for the free exchange of ideas on best cataloging practices.

He has also done presentations – “Dewey Demystified: A Hands on Introduction to [DDC]” and “An Overview of the MARC21 Bibliographic Format.”
